We asked Jo Anne a few questions and were honoured they took the time to answer our questions to share with you !
What inspired you to join the cannabis industry, and how has it changed your life?
Cannabis has been a big part of my life since I was a teenager smoking skelm on the rugby field or behind an office building and accompanied me throughout my highs (pun intended) and lows. In 2017 after a series of (un)fortunate events, I left my dead-end job earning peanuts.
I live in Hogsback, Eastern Cape, a small tourist village on the Amathole Mountain range known for its beautiful forests, waterfalls, arty quirky people & simple way of life. I started the smallest market stall ever in 2017 selling CBD lollipops at our weekly Saturday market & grew my stall products range until I opened Cannacopia in December 2022. I've met so many people who are canna curious but uneducated on the uses of cannabis, the difference between CBD & THC & how to use either that I regularly have long conversations about cannabis with so many different people from all walks of life.
I like to think I'm helping bridge the gap between the cannabis industry and the canna curious. I'm still growing my brand and products, still in the experimental stage to see what works and what doesn't so Cannacopia is always morphing, making changes & listening to what people need. I have a website www.cannacopia.co.zathat offers most of what I have in stock. My business has changed my life because now I get to build my own brand, meet interesting people & engage in conversations about cannabis with complete strangers who have different views on cannabis
2: Can you share a moment when your work in cannabis made a positive impact?
There has been many moments where I've seen or been told how cannabis products have helped people cope with pain, depression, anxiety, insomnia, cancer...and it always make me feel warm & fuzzy inside. One particular incident comes to mind though....I knew a couple who were very anti cannabis in every shape & form believing it to be the devils lettuce. Fast forward a couple of years, the husband got neuropathy & started to buy Icy Hot Gel from me to help for the pain, I was over the moon.
What advice do you have for women considering a career in cannabis?
"In 2017 someone said to me "Follow your passion to find your purpose" & "Money flows where passion goes" & that has stuck ever since"
Joanne Campbell's story is a powerful reminder of the impact one individual can have in the cannabis industry. Her dedication and success serve as an inspiration to many, and we are proud to celebrate her achievements this Women’s Month !
