In the heart of Plettenberg Bay, a powerful story of resilience, community, and growth unfolds — the story of First Nation Organics (FNO). Founded by two remarkable individuals, Denerick "Birdy" Plaatjies and Samkelo "Magic Mooki" Brikwa, FNO is more than just a business; it is a movement rooted in heritage, skill, and a shared vision for a greener future.

Meet the Visionaries
Birdy, hailing from the New Horizons area, carries the wisdom of his Griekwa lineage. A multi-skilled construction and maintenance worker, Birdy brings years of experience from both the DankiPa Eco Estate and the local building industry. His dedication to cannabis cultivation blossomed during his year-long internship at The Canna Club (TCC). As a youth leader of the Bitou House of Rastafari, Birdy seamlessly blends cultural heritage with modern-day plant science, making him a vital force in both his community and the cannabis space.

Mooki, from Qolweni, is a true embodiment of strength and spirit. With his Griekwa roots grounding him, Mooki’s journey spans years of training and certification by GRRcc in cultivation, maintenance, and construction. A skilled team leader, local soccer star, and coach, he channels his leadership skills into every facet of FNO, nurturing both plants and people alike.

Together, Birdy and Mooki stand as equal partners, united by their shared passion for sustainable cultivation and community upliftment.
The Birth of First Nation Organics
Launched with the goal of merging their expertise in cultivation and construction, First Nation Organics quickly gained momentum. Their journey took a pivotal turn when they became official service providers for The Canna Club in August 2023, solidifying their roles as cultivation and infrastructure technicians.
Through dedicated training with Green Herizon and The CannaClub, FNO refined their organic farming techniques, mastering outdoor, greenhouse, indoor, and greendoor cultivation. Their efforts didn’t go unnoticed — by June 2024, they secured their first outdoor cultivation contract on behalf of the TCC Stokvel Members. This contract entrusted FNO with half of the legendary The Garden with Weed In cultivation area, marking a monumental step in their journey.

A Vision for the Future
First Nation Organics’ mission extends far beyond the soil. Their vision is clear:
Strengthen existing partnerships with GRRcc and The Canna Club, ensuring sustainable growth and consistent service.
Establish a long-term organic farming operation through a majority share in the DankiPa eco farming partnership, fostering a self-sufficient, high-value small-scale farm.
Continue uplifting their community by sharing their knowledge, providing employment opportunities, and preserving the cultural significance of cannabis cultivation.
With the unwavering support of GRRcc and the H&H Trust, FNO is poised to transform their dreams into reality — cultivating not only plants but a thriving future for themselves and their community.
